Meet Madeline Son
Praised for her expressive sensitivity, radiant tone, and commanding stage presence, violinist Madeline Son has emerged as one of the most dynamic young artists of her generation. Born in Maryland and raised in California, Madeline began studying the violin at the age of six and currently studies with Grace Unhae Kwon.
A laureate of numerous national and international competitions, Madeline has garnered top prizes at the Young Muse International Competition, the International Music and Arts Society Competition, the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition, the Charleston International Music Competition, and the Special Venue Music Awards International Competition. She was featured in the highlight reel of the “Play with Ray Chen” International Competition for her artistry and charisma. Madeline has been a first-prize winner at the Southwest Youth Music Festival, the Satori Strings Competition, the Southwest Bach Festival, the American Soloist International Music Competition, and the Young Friends Society of Arts Miami International Music Competition. She received the Satori Prodigy Award at age eleven and has also been recognized by the Music Teachers’ Association of California VOCE Competition and the Pasadena Rotary Instrumental Music Competition.
Madeline has appeared as a soloist at world-renowned venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kaufman Music Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Harvard University. She has also performed as a soloist with the Glendale Youth Orchestra and the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra Philharmonic, where she currently serves as concertmaster.
Equally devoted to community engagement, Madeline has shared her music in service-oriented settings, performing at Pasadena City Hall’s Candlelight Vigil for survivors of domestic violence and organizing benefit concerts such as the Eaton Canyon Fire Relief Concert, which raised $15,000 for fire relief efforts.
Madeline’s playing has been described as possessing “very solid technique and gorgeous, clean lines,” “a wonderful dramatic presentation, soulful and personal,” and “a beautiful tone with extraordinary control.” Her performances have been praised for their “poetry, elegance, and expressive depth,” showcasing both her technical mastery and innate musical sensitivity.
